Matt and I have been married for almost 9 years and we have never had to go to the ER until last night and it wasn't for me!
Let me take you back to last Monday April 27th, Matt is on his way to Vegas for a conference. He parks his truck at the Master Park lot and takes the shuttle to the airport. On the shuttle he is sitting in the front seats, as soon as you get on the bus he is in the seats to the right. A vehicle pulls out in front of the bus and the driver has to slam on his brakes. Matt slides across the seat next to him and hits his right bicep on the arm rest, breaks the arm rest, the force then spins him around and he hits his left bicep and head on the dash board and hits his knee on a bar in front of the dash board. The driver asked Matt if he was alright and Matt said he thought so. He called me that night and told me what had happened and that he was sore. He started taking aspirin for the pain.
Jump to Thursday April 30th, I get to Vegas and go to Matt's room. He finishes his class and comes to the room to see me. He shows me his arms and I couldn't believe what I saw! the two biggest knots and bruises I have ever seen! He continues to take aspirin for the pain the rest of the week.
Now we are up to yesterday, Monday May 4th exactly a week after the "almost accident." Matt calls me at work and tells me he needs to go to the Dr. Now you all know Matt doesn't go to the Dr unless something is VERY wrong. He told me his hands keep going numb and he has tightness in his chest. I gave him Dr Rich's phone number. They cant get him in until Tuesday at 10:30. I don't hear from him the rest of the day until 4:45 and I just left the office to go home. Matt calls and says he thinks he should go to the ER. WHAT?! He was already in Auburn so I made what could be called an illegal U turn and headed to the ER to meet him. We get there and there are several people there with masks on! Oh great now I'm going to catch the swine flu! The doc calls us back and Matt tells him whats going on, then the doctor immediately get Matt into a room and tells him to put on a gown. OK now I am getting scared. We wait for EVER before a doctor comes in and checks Matt. Then its off to x-ray. and more waiting. Matt gets back from x-ray and we wait for the results. Nothing is broken, thank god. He has two severe bruises with blood build up behind them. The build up is big enough that it is pushing on nerves and that's why his hands are going numb. The Doc gave him some drugs and finally we got to go home.
I was so relieved to hear nothing major was wrong. I have never seen my husband in a hospital gown and on a stretcher. It was very scary! And me being the emotional mess I am, it took everything I had not to cry. and I didn't!
So thats our first trip to the ER. Not a fun experience!
